First time in many years I'll have venison. The Good Lord let us have one of his creatures @ 11:29 am today first day of season. We could of had two, the other was a doe,but we let her go by to perpetuate the species for future hunters. The 30-06 Remington did the job, used 180 gr factory round. From where we were the deer was about a block and a half away, 1 shot kill.We will let it hang and skin it in a couple of days, temps are at 32 deg F so it will cool and cure out. Seen quite a few hunters out walking the roads looking for deer to trip over, they never think after the first shot of the season the deer head for the swamps only to come out at night for forage.Been that way since I can remember, had to go thru swamps, tag alders to kick em out. I hope you guys and gals get to fill your tags and have a safe hunt.Warmest regards, LOU
