I HATE that show. I've got a lot of amish friends in OH. There are SO many solid, upstanding, nice, hardworking amish, and these )#(*$'s have to go and do a documentary on a few bad eggs, making them all look bad.
Because of course, nobody wants to watch a documentary on SIMPLE people - our society is to fascinated with tearing people down and seeing the worst in everything.
And on top of it, they get so overly dramatic every step of the way. It's just so ridiculous that I find it unwatchable.
I wish people would just leave them alone. That's all they want is a community where they can live their lifestyle without all the modern conveniences and trappings of our modern society.
But the sad reality is that if you're different, other americans will stick you under a microscope and sell tickets. That's all this show is - it's sticking them under a microscope and poking them with a stick so they perform in a way that'll make more people watch and sell more advertising.
Just like the other show that was all about people "breaking out", getting "smuggled" out. It was so awful, and so far from reality that it hurt to watch any of it.

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999.
