Cast STEEL is actually not common at all! Two types of cast iron, gray iron which is probably what 80+/-% of castings are, and DUCTILE or NODULAR iron also known years ago as "semi-steel" being probably 15-16%. Rest is steel. There used to only be about 12-15 steel casting foundries in the US and one I know closed up about 10 years ago. I'm not including foundries that pour stainless steel castings as a steel foundry. They cater to a totally different set of customers.
There are lots of grades of cast gray iron, as well as many grades of ductile/nodular iron (just different names for the same material).
