I was going to start cutting soybeans today until on the last going over of the combine I found the belt for the unloading auger drive on my old JD 95 Corn Special was about to brake. Looked like it had been cut, So ok I take it off and call JD to see if they have one or if I had to order it. Much to my surprise I was told it's NLA. What do you mean NLA ? He said according to the note on the computer JD is no longer going to support these old combines for parts. Well that's just dandy ! So now after 3 hours on the phone I found a supplier why can get the belt some ware out of Illinois for $27 and the only way I can get it other than a stock order (a week wait) is UPS Next Day Air for $39. My combine is down and the soybean are ready and now the combine sits waiting for a belt. Just my luck. Now the $30 belt is going to cost about $70 with shipping. I guess while it's down I am going to look a little closer at everything now while I twiddle my thumbs waiting. So now it's $70 for the belt and shipping and because it was after 4 pm (shipping cut off) it will be shipped tomorrow and be hear by Thursday by 10:30 am, Oh what a joy! I cant believe JD or A&I don't carry the belts for the 5 series but everything for the 100 series. Now the funny thing is A&I can get belts for the Oliver 35 525 535 and 545 as well as MF combines BUT NOT for the 5 series JD's. What's the world coming too!!!!! I feel as if I have been shunned by Mother Deere. Bandit

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
