Went with some family members for a Sunday afternoon drive to check the crops. Front passenger told the drive to slow down a bit when we drove by a farm as the dog always came out to chase the vehicle. Front passenger waited until the dog got alongside the front wheel then told the driver to speed up. Passenger opened the door and sent the dog rolling; the dog ended up wrapped around the mailbox post. Never saw that dog chase another vehicle.
For the ones that couldn't be cured with a hit from the door, he put a piece of burlap across the front wheel, held in place by the wheel cover. Dog would naturally bite at the burlap, which usually resulted in a broken neck, thereby curing the dog from chasing cars.
