The older 640 had a amp gauge and no fuel gauge. Your later production 641 would have come from the factory with a idiot light and a fuel gauge.
When 12 volt conversions are done some convert over to the amp gauge for several reasons. It could be..... The idiot light and or the fuel gauge did not work. That idiot light is kinda hard to find. They do not understand how to wire the alternator into a idiot light. They cheap out and force the alternator to work with a 1 wire hookup rather than running all the wires for it to work properly.
Its your tractor so your call on what gauges you want.
