Agreed. I've sold everything from hay to pickups on Craigslist and I haven't been burned - yet. Wasted a few trips to look at things that weren't what they said they were - but I've had dealerships waste my time the same way.
I recently had a dealer advertising on CL about a really nice pickup he had for sale, looked good in the pictures and he went on about how it was a California truck that had never seen Kansas salt and the frame even looked like a new one with only 80K miles. He kept going on about what a sweet ride this thing was. Drove almost two hours to check it out with cash in my pocket to buy it. In person you could see the rust bubbling through the upper fenders and around the rear of the bed. Driver's seat was broken down and the fabric worn through and torn, looked like it had three different colors of white sprayed on it from various repairs. My guess was it was much closer to 180K than 80K miles. Walked around it once and got back in my car and drove off.
I'm sure he complained about those people who answer CL ads and never show up like they say they will.
