Looks like a demo derby event when roads get slick in the south.
Never used electronic logs, I sold my last truck and retired in 08 after 30 years, miss the camaraderie but not the traffic, never had satellite communications, got my first cell phone in 94, it was mounted in the truck with a cord connected the a hand set like a house phone.
Cost me $30 a month for 45 minutes of local calls only, outside my area was a $3 connection fee for each area I called or received a call from plus $.90 to $1.20 a minute.
Dispatch was the only one to have my number so if the phone rang I knew who it was but wouldn't answer, I'd stop at the next truck stop or rest area can call their 800 number on a land line. Told my family if they needed to get in touch with me to call dispatch.
My Galaxie 33 and Gray 300 watt bilinear was my main communications device.
