Be very careful of your "warning". Faster than greased lightening, this'll get flipped around as you having "threatened" the dog, and very possibly the dog owner. PLEASE be careful on that part. Courts are screwy this way!!
That said, you have every right in the world to protect what is yours. If the dog is running cattle, and the dog is that large and aggressive, then if you see the dog in the act, get the dog on camera first, then drop the dog and leave it be until sheriff's dept. arrives.
Other than that, what you do is your own doing. You can lace some ground beef or something, but if caught, YOU will be the one going to jail. ...Can't help but wonder if this "neighbor" has been trying to get you to do something over the years so he could sue you. Maybe that's one way he makes his money?
