Did you read that series of articles in Hart Parr Oliver Collector (or was it Oliver Heritage?) on putting a Cummins in those? It's a whole bunch bigger deal than putting a combine engine in an 1850 that already had a Perkins. I'd think it would have to be a pretty darned special tractor to put that kind of money and effort in to a Cummins repower. For what you'd spend and what you could get for it as is,you could probably buy a pretty decent 2-105 and have the equivalent of an 1855 with a turboed Perkins. I was blown away by the power mine actually has. The radiator was out on my 2-135 and I had some plowed ground to disc. I've got a 20 foot disc. The 105 hauled it right along at close to 5mph. I couldn't believe it.
I'd drop the pan and see what happened before I did anything though. If the crank is galled beyond what can be ground,I'd be scouring the net for a 2-105.
