It might be feasible. The motor in my 3 year old lawn mower/garden tractor uses about half the gas the one before it did. A 40 -50 HP gas fueled tractor would have to be far more efficient tan those of yesteryear, that's for sure. Shoot, Pop got rid of his Farmall M in 1954 and went to a diesel because "The d@3#) thing used way too much gas". We have 3 small gas tractors of the farm here, none of which are over 30 hp., and they use enough gas when worked all day. Can't imagine what a 60 hp gas engine would use under load.
My hemi gets pretty good mileage for putting out almost 400 hp. BUT, my Son-in-Laws Cummins uses no more fuel under heavy load than the Hemi uses running empty. Not saying it couldn't happen, but there would have to be a big difference in maintenance costs in favor of the gas engine to show any advantage over a diesel engine.
