Years ago when we were having problems with fuel thieves in the area I was tempted to mix up a batch of piston melter and let them have at it.
Not suggesting anyone try it, just sharing the story behind it.
You are probably wondering; what is piston melter?
Piston melter was the pet name we gave to our custom blend of fuel enhancer we used when we raced stock cars to get a little more power from our engines.
Don't remember the exact formula but I do remember it included moth balls, white Coleman stove fuel, octane booster, xylene and a few other things.
It worked well but unfortunately the saying about more is better did not apply to our recipe.
After blending a batch with something like double the additives we loaded up the trailer and headed to the track.
6 laps into the race my car was going like it was on fire, halfway through lap 7 my car was on fire.
One piston literally vaporized into little ball bearing sized blobs in the bottom of the pan and with the absence of a piston in the hole a considerable amount of oil blew out the exhaust pipes on fire.
I was told afterwards that It made so much smoke that they could not see my car from the stands or the pits which was not hard to believe as I could not even see my hands on the steering wheel.
Managed to stop the car and bail out, the track crew got the fire out quickly and less the engine the rest of the car was okay.
No idea if it would have the same effect on a modern computer controlled fuel injected engine but my 455 Olds engine sure didn't care for it.
