Do a little research there Russ. A recent spat of peer reviewed studies prove that the pollution created in growing then harvesting corn, shipping it, processing it into ethanol then shipping it to blend with gas when added to the pollution from burning just the ethanol actually makes more pollution than it saves. In other words the air is dirtier not cleaner because of ethanol. That is one of the reasons that the federal government got forced to stop directly subsidizing ethanol producers.

But the key here is you have to take into account the pollution made by dust, sprays, chemical fertilizers, tractors, combines, trucks, trains,the ethanol plants plus from burning it in an engine to come up with a total figure for how much pollution is made.

The folks in the EPA are not our friends. I met one who had just retired from the US EPA a few years back who was telling anyone who would listen that "we may have to eliminate some human life to save the environment". Plus the EPA lies to further it's agenda. "Many children died in the US in the 50's and 60's because of diesel particulate matter". Really? They don't even have one autopsy report to support that claim. They completely ignore the fact that most smaller tractors and some as large as 90 HP were available clear into the 70's with a gas engine. Heck of a lot of small construction equipment back then was available in gas. Heck up to the late 70's most light and medium trucks were gas including a lot of day cab semi's! So my first question is WHERE DID ALL THAT DIESEL PARTICULATE MATTER COME FROM? 2: WERE ARE THE AUTOPSY REPORTS?

For that matter for years the EPA encouraged people to buy more fuel efficient cars as a way to reduce pollution. The truth is that the pollution created by all the processes of making a new car means that if you buy a new one that is 10-20% more efficient than your old one, and your old one was well maintained, more pollution was cause to make the new one than the old one will make in it's life. That pollution made in the process of making a car includes recycling and new materials including strip mining, oil used to make plastic parts and so on. Things most of us don't even think about when we look at new cars.

I like clean air. But don't lie to me about it (EPA).
