Hello, I have a 1950 8N that jumps out of 1st gear going down a steep hill. Reading some posts here and elsewhere, it seems a logical place to start out would be to check the set screws securing the detent balls to see if a set screw is loose. Can anyone inform me whether or not the set screws for 1st gear, or any gear for that fact, is accessable from the top cover without splitting the rear from the trans housing? Also, in the mean time, can I hold the shifter in place manually to get down a hill? It doesn't jump out of gear on a flat or slight hills when Im mowing a field. I appreciate any help.
