Engines Painted Black ... any advantage or disadvantage ???

Is there any reason why you seldom see engines painted black? I think some of the Masseys were black but very few others as far as I can remember. What with black and it's properties for absorbing and retaining heat (I think), I wonder if there is any application to engines in that regard? I know there are a lot of motorcycle engines that are black. Would a black tractor engine have any advantages or disadvantages?
