I think (most of what I say is 'I think' so take with a grain of salt) that trailers can only be 8' wide, so the tires have to be under the bed, so the axle can only be about 6' long, leaving a foot for each tire??? Without seeing it, I'm not sure what's unusual about a 6' axle.... Actually, you said duals, so I don't see how they can fit a set of duals in a foot space, I'm surprised the axles are 6' long. This is tandom duals, right?

What kind of rims does it have? I would not particularly want mobile home rims, and mobile home tires are illegal over 30 mph. This is probably not an issue with duals, as all mobile homes I've seen are singles, not duals.

The axle probably should have a manufaturer number or stamping on it to track down the rating, but might be lots of rust & paint to go through, and then track down what the numbers mean...

What is the hitch rated at? That should be stamped as well.

I believe currently new trailers need brakes on both axles, but older ones may be grandfathered in. This is a _very_ slippery issue, I seem to get 5 different answers when I ask about it....

What are you going to pull it with? Don't know if a 1/2 ton is real comfortable with 10k behind it, you need to check out the gross total weight your vehicle can handle legally.

Sounds like the trailer is made of 'C' channel iron. There are a lot of different specs on iron, so no idea how good the one you found is, but I see channel iron for frames on other trailers.

I probably gave more questions than help, and I don't know much, but maybe seed for thought?

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
