Lots of good replys here, thought I would add my two cents. I own a '99 Ford powerstroke, so you can know what my personal bias is. When I bought, I looked seriously at the Dodge. There is no disputing the quality and durability of the 5.9 cummins motor. It is used, with much success, in many application; trucks, agriculture and industrial. I personally believe that most 5.9s will out last most Powerstokes, everything else being equal. However, the Powerstroke has been greatly refined and improved over the years and will serve most people very well. The more important consideration is the truck as a whole. This is where I believe the Ford clearly outshines the Dodge. The Ford has an excellent automatic transmission and very good brakes. The overall build quality of the Ford is clearly better. I am a rancher and many of my neighbors have diesel trucks to move cattle with. There are quite a few Dodges in this neck of the woods. Everybody loves the cummins but shakes there head at the rest of the truck. Something is always falling apart or off.
