Dad had next to the last bid on a 930 Discomfort King back late in 1968. Cousin farmed right across the road from the farm, was familiar with the 930. Said it was a 4-bottom tractor, We were using a nice 4-14 Case trailer plow with MidWest plow harrow. Seemed like you climbed UP a long ways to get in the seat. I was relatively low hours, I forget where Dad stopped bidding. He had been looking for a 796 or 806 diesel but just nothing available in red! Following Saturday Dad bought "The MONEY PIT 4010". and the matching #400 4-38 frt mounted cultivator. Unfortunately he found a CASE 5-14 trailer plow, not near as nice as the 4-14 Case plow we had, He transferred the plow harrow over and widened the harrow, and it was WAY more than the 4010 could handle. I was down in 2nd & 3rd gear plowing sod! We pulled the back bottom off one rainy day. Between the $3600 for the 4010, $1600 for the cultivator, $$$$ for four new tires, $$$ for new paint/decals, $$$ for tune-up, $$$$ major engine rebuild, tie rod ends, load shaft seals and a gallon or two of #303, rebuild the 24v electrical system, PTO shifter and clutch rebuild when it tried shifting from 540 to 1000 while bush-hogging. Yep, a BRAND NEW 806-D would have been WAY cheaper!

Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit
