When we purchased a vehicle last month, the manager of the car lot stated that the newer engines have some high tech. internal components that need clean oil. He said that the government has pressured the oil companies and car manufacturers to increase the oil change intervals. So it is as the old Fram commercial stated, Pay me now or pay me later. He also said to buy the best filter instead of the cheapest. If you asked at a repair shop, they could tell you what they have seen, but you don't know how the owner cared for his vehicle either. So if you buy a car and run it for a long period of time, change often. If you buy old cars and run them til they die, maybe not so often. Either way, you are going to get conflicting info.
