The key without the chip will open the door and even start the car. You just need the chip in the area for the car to start. In other words..... The non chipped key will open the door. You can tape the chipped key in the area and the non chipped key will start the car.
I like the new GM car my wife has. Has only a FOB. The doors will not lock if you leave the FOB in the car.
