I wonder why we don't make power poles out of poplar. Oh yeah, it's one of the weakest woods available, which probably is related to its very fast growth.
In fact, I've lived much of my life in the south. Pretty much all the old-growth longleaf yellow pine is gone. Trees big enough to make 130 foot tall power poles? Fuhgetaboutit.
