Because "parts man" isn't a career anymore. Life would be a whole lot better if people just learned to accept that and moved on but apparently they have a need to complain about something.
Parts counter attendant is an entry level, minimum wage job. The computer system is set up the way it is set up because it covers 99.9% of the customers that come in the door, and it's easy to use for an entry-level, minimum wage worker.
The job attracts the quality people that an entry level minimum wage job attracts. If the person is smart, catches on quickly, works hard, they move on to bigger and better in no time. "That girl that used to be here that was so great" is now working as a teller at the bank for $5/hr more.
