My son and I each bought Cummins 20,000-watt natural gas whole house (and barn) generators, 3+ years ago. We did the installations ourselves. I did have to have a new gas supply line brought in to be able to run it. Our house is operated on natural gas heat, hot water, gas cooking and gas dryers (2 laundry rooms). No, not a big house. My wife has trouble with the basement steps so I installed Speed Queen washer and dryer in my office across the hall from our bedroom. The generator cycles once per week for about 10 minutes and we service it once per year in the fall with new oil filter, air filter and oil. We changed the spark plugs the first year and adjusted the valve lash per the manual. I think we can go 2 years on the plugs, maybe 3. We will check them each fall. As for computer operation, neither of us have had any problem while the generator is running. I often forget that it runs on Tuesday and have to identify the outside sound (not very loud from in the house). It sits on pad at the north end of our house about 20 from the basement wall below the spare bedroom. We have had several power failures and it is nice to not light kerosene lamps and candles for light or light the cook stove for a little heat. LOL
