Around here in Manitoba regardless of hay quality or amount, any alfalfa mix hay is sold for 3-3.5 cents a lbs standing. Take it or somebody else will. If it is a very thin crop then the price goes down as it costs to much to cut and bale with no volume. I was paying $20 a big round bale but was getting less than a bale an acre so I quit cutting it. so far every year someone else is cutting and baling it. I have no idea what there paying but always another sucker born every day they say. Another thing people do is half shares or even the guy that cuts and bales gets 60 percent. the owner of land can then sell his share to the baler or to anyone else at the going price for that year. right now rounds are $50-100 depending on the alfalfa content. The more hay on your field the more you get even at the same price per lbs. I still believe you should rent per acre to him or cents a lbs for what is on there as one person gets heavy bales and the next is lighter. Weigh 2-3 random bales and you got his weights.

He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana.
