Between 1972 and 1983, when dad and I were still feeding cattle, we put around 14,000 hours total between 2 John Deere 4320 tractors, plus whatever we put on the 3020 and the 3010 loader tractor. We used at least one tractor every day of the year. Amazing how fast hours can accumulate. Back then we still plowed which added a lot of hours. Plus discing, field cultivating, planting, row crop cultivating, spraying, sidedressing nitrogen, hauling grain, augering grain, picking at least some corn, cutting hay, raking and baling hay and straw, pulling racks, running bale elevator, hauling silage wagons, running the blower, feeding hay, feeding silage with the chuckwagon, scraping, loading and spreading manure, clipping pastures, plowing snow, grading lanes, etc. Now, one tillage pass on corn in the fall, level and incorporate in the spring, plant corn and no-till beans, and put the tractor away. Hire spraying done, nitrogen goes on with the chemicals.Haul grain to the elevator in trucks. No livestock. Snowplow on the pickup. Spend rest of time restoring tractors.
