I'll tell you what I did: I just went to several auto parts stores and started asking questions about what they had and how much it costs. You want to get the largest amperage battery that will fit in your battery box. I found an 835-amp battery for my 6v Farmall 100 at a local battery dealer for $50. He was $25 cheaper than anyone else, and the battery was rated at 200 amps more than any other battery I could find. That sucker is H-O-T. There are some instances - such as in high-vibration environments - where you would want a special battery. That's where a gel battery would come into play. You can also use them in the place of an ordinary lead-acid battery, but they can be rather pricey.
