Don't remember the model number but Case sold a Unimog model in the mid 70's. I worked for the Case dealer in Wayne County Indiana at the time and we sold one to a well and water contractor with the loader and back hoe. His plan was to use it when doing farm and small municipality repair and installs. He also bought the heavy duty snow blower. It just so happened that he bought it fall of 1977, of course you know what happend on January 25th of 1978. We pretty much took every new piece of equipement into the streets in our own and surrounding small towns to push and dig through the snow. This guy took his Unimog to Chicago and worked for the city for a month, he became very adapt at blowing snow into dump semis, much like you would run a SP chopper in a corn field. They hauled the snow to the shore and dumped it into lake Michigan. He made enough in one month to make his payments for about 18 months. Sadly he couldn't make enough in the water business to keep up and we repo'd. I think it ended up in New York state.

I do remember personaly dismantleing the transmission. One of the syncronized gears got worn, probably from all the shifting with the snow blower. I can attest to the complexity of the gears and drive line. I much prefered working on the Case power shift transmission of that time. More interesting memories, I love this board.

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
