I know you already told Van you didn't like the idea, but I'll make the same basic recommendation he did, and suggest a good hand tiller. Having a tractor feels wonderfull in a Tim Allen sorta way. But when it comes to actually getting a garden plot ready for planting, the tiller is way ahead of a tractor. If you truly are bent on a tractor, I'd suggest looking hard at some of the small machines like Yanmar, Deutz and such. They are superb machines, and super compact. They make small standard tractors like the Ford N series look large and cumbersome.
