Not to give you a smart answer but there is no such thing as "standard hydraulic fluid". There are "universal" fluids which are made to meet many manufactorers specifications but each "universal" fluid does not meet all of them. 134 is pretty generic but there are huge differences in base oil stocks. In no case would R&O hydraulic oil sub. Best to pick a (brand of) fluid that meets the specs of all your stuff and stay with it. I accidentally mixed Tech 2000 TFD with Tech 2000 R&O. In an automatic bale wagon. Ruined packings in 3 cylinders and formed a green gelatinous substance in all th lines.

I'd been subbing Tech 2000 for 134 and it did ok. Switched to Coastal Multitrac (Not Coastal 303) in all my Fords. Most of the refiners run a medium grade and a premium grade TFD. Be sure to get the premium, if you don't go back to 134. The Multitrac has done fine, even stopped brake chatter I was getting with the other and firmed up dual power. Even though it costs more I subbed it for R&O in my bale wagon so I'd never have to keep different kinds again. Runs about $281 a barrel.

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
