Mike, It is hard to say from what you have told us. Does it run ? If so does the battery charge ? ie at least 13+ volts accross the battery with the engine running. The 6 volt coil can be used on a 12 volt system if you use a dropping resistor. It will run without the dropping resistor, but hard on the coil and points.
