Weather permitting forage crops should be cut for hay when the 1st flower buds open in the clover or alfalpha. Protein will be at max. Can even be plenty strong for livestock until acclimatized to it. Takes the longest to dry then when the stems are still filled to max with moisture. Better to harvest a green hay a week later than brown/black hay early however.
