I agree with Lee - you want something that heats the coolant. The freeze-plug heaters do a good job, but you have to remove one of the freeze plugs and replace it with the heater. There is a heater that fits inside the lower radiator hose. I added an external tank heater to my truck. It takes coolant from the block drain, heats it, and pumps it into the return line from the cab heater core, heating the engine. It does a good job. You can get these heaters from a good auto parts store, like NAPA. A rule-of-thumb for wattage is to multiply the engine displacement by three and buy the next-higher-wattage heater.
