had a similar problem with an old JD A it was loose mounting bolts inside the case had to take it apart but once the bolts were tightened up no more jumping out of ranges. I have copies of the shop manual for your tractor price is 18.00 US email me if you need one it is 186 pages has great transmission diagrams and how to take it apart. regards rod
