In my 'day job' I've changed quite a few. You have to change the rear end too (at least on the ones I have done). Just a transmission leaves him short a few things. My cost on the change over runs about $3000, plus labor. The rear end also has to match the transmission type. Mostly what I do is put a 3600 rear end and transmission on 3000 engines and front ends. Brakes and linkages are all different and steps plus the front axle stabilizors have to be 'made' to fit on the 3600 transmission case. To this day I can't see why people will pay $4900 to do this to a 3000 but I get a couple a year.
