I presume your engine uses breaker points and a coil with two high tnesion towers? If it does, in fact have breaker points, here's what you need to check. 1.) Check your battery voltage WHILE CRANKING with the starter. It should be above 9 Volts, if it's below try a known good battery. 2.) Take a close look at points to see if they are discolored and burned. If the switch was left on, this is likely. 3.) Likely, the coil has been damaged by the internal heat generated by the battery draining through the coil when the switch was left on. You will probably need to replace the coil.
