It may be implement alley, but there have been a half dozen posts lately on this subject that will be very helpful. I think the answer partially lies in your local where competetion sets the price. It's not price fixing, it's economics. If you charge too little, you aren't there next year (went broke), and if you charge too much you aren't there (no customers), so you do the going rate. In N.Texas, rolls are around $12.50 sitting in the field (he hauls) and squares are $1 sitting on the ground (if he has a big field and is close). If you can't get to the field or for some reason you can't make good time in collecting the crop, then I would negotiate higher rates for those reasons. Like one guy wanted me to do a rye field but it was thru 4 narrow gates, then 3/4 mile down a hill into the bottoms and in the bottoms were soft spots, tons of crawdad towers and general wet conditions. Rye isn't all that great anyway. I said no thanks. I don't like it but life's a beach. Mark
