The IRS screwed Dad over royally over an insurance settlement about 20 years ago when our house burned. They taxed him on the settlement amount given to him soley to dispurse to the contractors doing the repairs, money he never saw a cent of. He wound up having to pay thousands of dollars extra in taxes on that money which in turn made recovering from the fire loss even tougher. He promised the agent then that he would get his money back in spades and he has.... Dad is an easy going man but you don't want to pi-- him off......Besides a customer is never gonna call the IRS for giving him an extremely good deal because he isn't gonna report it on his taxes either. He gets a better break paying in cash and not writing it off as expenses than if he did report it......besides cash tells no tales so there's never any proof....it's MY sweat and labor I'm selling not some politicians in DC so I don't feel I owe them a cent they don't deserve ....... In fact it's about time for the public to stand up for their rights and say screw the income tax. I don't mind paying one bit when it's gonna be used constructively, but I spent my time in the military, and I watch what's going on in the news so I KNOW how everybodys tax money is wasted so I'm NEVER giving anymore than I absoultely have to.....Just my .02

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
