I maybe to late, but here is a temporay fix. My family ran 2 Leyland 285's (a derated model of the 2100). I assume, you first noticed the difficulty changing gears, or hearing the gears grind every time you change gear. Our old 285 did this a lot. We use to get a jack, and take the pressure off the clutch by jacking the back end of the engine up, now is the part, I don't remember that well, as it was 12 years ago. Then there are 2 pins to replace, but I don't remember which ones. The pins that we replaced, were the pins that broke if the mounting brackets were wore. When we replaced the pins on the old 285, we would get about a month of use before the pins broke again. At the first sign of difficulty changing gears, those pins will have problably broke (Note both Leyland 285's were opened up to produce 115 engine horse power, and they used that power most of the time working heavy PTO work) On a final note, 12 years ago my family moved to Canada, and now, I am looking for a Leyland 2100 or 285 with either the 10 speed box, or the 9 speed syncro. If you know where I can find one please let me know!
Sincerely,
John Robinson

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
