We have about 25-30 laying hens, and our chicken coop is 12' x 24' with a single slope shed roof. Windows with screen covering along one side, and a regular combination storm unit for the walk through door. Don't forget a small opening for the hens, with a door that can be closed at night. We have a 10" exhaust fan (from Graingers) that works good on really warm days, otherwise just a old box fan hanging from the rafters keeps enough air moving during the summer. Fresh water is important. Besides a 5 gal. poultry waterer in the coop, we buried a 1/4" plastic underground line to a self-filling hanging fountain outside the coop. The hens really seem to enjoy it. The best investment we've made has been a $3 egg washer at an auction. Takes the chores out of what was a real chore!
