Like the others say, take the hood off and do it right. When the dealer did it to my dad's tractor years ago, they had a cutting tool that looked like a chisel with a spur on the side. The mechanic placed the chisel on the sheet metal spur side down, and the spur cut a neat slice out of the hood. When he got thru he had a square hole in the hood slightly larger than the muffler flange. They screwed a square patch designed to cover hole, and match contours of the hood with sheet metal screws. Didn't fit well, and looked like heck. Like the others say, take the hood off and do it right. If you must cut, a tool designed to cut metal on an air chisel, or a cutting wheel on a Dremmel tool would work. Like the others say, take the hood off and do it right!
