Rich: Paul is right, 1.5 hp per disk blade. There is absolutely no feasable reason to pull that disk faster than 4.5 mph. Cultivator yes but not a disk. A disk is designed to cut and roll that cut, not windrow the entire 14'. All one must do these days is drive the country roads, one will soon see who has too much horse power. I can pick it out from the road, some people just make a mess, and that is not tillage. Cultivator has it's limit also, somewhere between 6.5 and 7.5 mph. The goal is to create a smooth seed bed that remains smooth. If you cant drive a new Cadilac or Lincoln at 50 mph on your settled seed bed or hayfield you've made a mess.
