I have a Kubota tractor, diesel, L235. It has been very hard to start. So I took the starter off and had it checked. Nope starter was fine. I have a glow light and now it does not seem to glow. I purchased the tractor second hand and it has always been hard to start. Cold weather I could get it started after about 5 - 10 minutes of trying, warm weather about 2 - 3 minutes. I replaced one of the battery cables because the insulation was melted a little from cranking for too long at a time. Also cleaned the battery terminals on both ends of the cables. If I did not crank it for at least 45 seconds then it would never start. Once it starts up it runs great. After it warms up it start easier maybe within 20 seconds of cranking. Currently the glow light will not light. I thought it did before having the starter checked, but not 100% sure. Now I can't get the tractor started. Is it because the glow light is not working? I am new to diesel tractors but I am very mechanically inclined. I did take the ignition switch off and when I turn the key to the position to light the element the tester shows a connection. What are some things I need to try to get this tractor starting easier? I have already changed the fuel filter and fuel in the tank. Took out what I think are the glow plugs and cleaned them. Please help if you can give me any insight on what I can try next to make my tractor start or start easier. Thank in advance for any help/info you can provide to me.

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
