By the way, I did not see the first message that you are discussing. So, I have no opinion on that - sounds like you didn"t do anything wrong on that, but just the whole thread got itself all riled up & it is far easier for the web owners to clip the whole thread rather than go through the sub-messages each day & clip the individual ones. :)

Typed words lose something like 75% of the "feel" of a face to face conversation, and so political topics, color wars, and so on often get skewed _way_ out of shape on discussion forums.

I have seen a couple of dedicated discussion forums (such as this one is, dedicated to older farm equipment) get so swamped by such off-topic stuff that people stop visiting, & the whole place folds up it"s tent.

So, some of us crusty old guys get pretty defensive about off-topic pokes. It fun sometimes, and clear jokes are fun, but anything that gets political will just roll off onto a life of it"s own that does no good for anyone. That is why most discussion forums are moderated, & messages that get feeling riled up just get deleted, no questions & no notification. It is the way of the internet.

In fact many times bored kids like to come on discussion forums & create that type of conflict "just for kicks" and so by now, anyone who stirs up such a conversation is labeled a troll and gets the kind of comments you have. Deserved or not.

Nice to see you are level headed. Shake off the comments, don"t worry about it, & see you around. :)

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
