In your situation, you may want to consider volunteering for a "farm center" at a local park. Some of these are very realistic AND they tend to encourage some of the more historical aspects of farming such as antique implements, tractors, and horses/mules/oxen. They will also have newer equipment on hand. I ended up doing this and I tell you it's not bad. You get to do a lot of interesting things and share it with a lot of people. Not sure I would enjoy modern farming nearly as much.
