You can also look for an engine serial number. If it is under a certain number, the tractor and engine matched serial numbers. You should be aware, however, that the A, B, and C had a lot of interchangeable parts so castings, engine numbers, and even the actual tractor serial number (since it was on a removable bracket) may not be original to the rest of the tractor. In the end you will only be guessing based on what I tend to call "overwhelming evidence" that the tractor can be credited to a certain year since most of it's parts are coded to that year. I was at a scrap yard recently where every Farmall B and BN on the place had a serial number that started with "FAA" for the Farmall A. Do your best and enjoy your tractor.
