Never could figure out how to get a 1/8" drill bit into where the starter drive and ring gear mesh without removing the transmission. Manual says 'high pitched whine after engine fires as key is being released... Distance too small between starter pinion and flywheel. high pitched whine during cranking (before engine fires)... Distance too great...' Get a variety of shims with different thicknesses and try to find a happy medium. 0.010" made a difference on my G20. I really think it was 0.005", but that seems too fussy for Chevy.
