It WAS a @#&%@ mouse! or, more likely, a mouse family. When I got the shroud off, there was so much fur, bits of string and seeds packed in around the flywheel, camshaft pulley, water pump and coil that it is a miracle that it ran at all. And the little buggers had gnawed right through the gound wire. I have no idea how they got in, since the shroud is pretty tight, but I'll have to find a way to keep them out in the future. Thanks for your time and advice. Mike
