The price of new ATV's has been climbing continuously, they're $6,000-$9,500 for a 4wd utility machine now. I went to a fair just a week or so ago, and all the snowmobile/atv/motorcycle dealers had these super low payment plans all figgured out and stuck on big tags on the machines, it was financing offered through the manufacturers, but the payment plans they had were almost rediculous on everything, I remember looking at one of the atv tags in particular, it was around an $8,000 big bore 4wd utility machine, but they offered a payment plan of $60 a month on it, like I said to the couple running the booth "you'd be paying on it forever", and they instantly agreed, oh, and the payments may have been low, but it was 8.99% interest, which was super hefty. I left there feeling the manufacturers must be pretty desperate to allow give folks that long to pay them back, although with 8.99% interest, they'd be making some money, problably just about pay for it twice if you only paid the minimum payments right along. I also noticed hardly anybody was looking at them either, even with those oversized tags on them with the lowball payments. I think things are going to get better before too long, the price of fuel has come down some.

Today's Featured Article - Gatherin of the Orange - by Rick Nikolich. In July of 1998 I was talking to fellow Allis Chalmers collector Mike Schilling about the annual "Gathering of The Orange" AC show coming up in August of 1999. He got this wild idea that we should get a convoy of AC tractors and drive them from Charlotte, Michigan 105 miles to LaGrange, Indiana. ... [Read Article]
