Tandy used to have a whole kit, chemicals, directions, etc. That"s the way we did it. Rit clothes dies work well for coloring the leather, otherwise it will end up an ugly gray. Die it just as you would cloth. As the other poster says it is a lot of work - especially removing all the flesh from the hide, as well as all the hair. Also be aware that there is not near as much usable leather in a hide as it appears there would be.
