Without seeing either tractor, it sounds like you need to decide first what you want - a) a tractor to use or a b) project to restore. If I were shelling out $7000 for a good small tractor, I'd look for a nice 4020 JD. I've even seen a decent 4840 sell for $7200 at auction and it would be WAY more tractor than a 970. We had a 1570 Case - I liked driving it since it had great power steering, pretty tight turning radius, etc... But we really had a lot of trouble with it compared to the John Deere (6030's, 4840's, 4440). Someone else would know more than me - but I think that Massey is a rebadged Moline, so it shouldn't be too hard to find parts for. Howard H.
